Gaslink Completes 38km Pipeline Expansion Project in Lagos State · Industries in Lagos are now positioned to cut their expenditure on power supply by 50% as Gaslink Nigeria Limited - a subsidiary of Oando Gas and Power , Nigeria ’s leading energy provider - announces the commissioning of its 38 kilometre Phase-3 gas pipeline expansion project in Lagos state. The gas pipeline network is used for the transportation of natural gas, a safer and cleaner substitute for gasoline (petrol), diesel, or propane fuel to industrial users within the state. The expansion project which commenced in May 2007 will deliver 1.809 million standard cubic feet (mmscf/d) of natural gas per day to the Apapa industrial area. The commissioning is coming on the heels of a successful hydrostatic pressure test conducted on the infrastructure, which confirmed the integrity of the pipelines. The new pipeline section was constructed in conformity to international standards and has surpassed the highest safety standards for inhabitants and properties around the facilities. The expansion project tagged GLIII (Greater Lagos Three), was built at a cost, of over N7bn and runs a distance of 38km through Ojota , Maryland , Obanikoro, Iganmu, Alaka, Wharf, Apapa, Tin Can Island and Amuwo Odofin. The completion of the new pipeline section as an addition to the existing infrastructure has resulted in a gas pipeline coverage of all the major industrial areas of Lagos State , with a total pipeline network of 99.4km. In 2001, Gaslink embarked on a phased urban pipeline network development drive that began with the construction of an 11.2 kilometre pipeline network, with a capacity to deliver 15mmscf/d, from the Nigerian Gas Company’s City Gate at Ikeja through Oba Akran, Lateef Jakande and Acme Roads; all within the Ikeja industrial scheme. Following the successful completion of the first phase of its development, the company commissioned its Ikeja 1B gas line with a capacity to deliver an additional 5mmscf/d to companies within Oregun through to Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way , Ikeja. By 2004, Gaslink’s pipeline network was further expanded by an 84 kilometre distribution line designed to deliver a throughput of 65mmscf/d through Ojota, Isolo, Amuwo Odofin, Ilupeju, Matori and Isolo. With this, Gaslink has developed an extensive pipeline network covering the major industrial areas in Lagos State . The Managing Director of Gaslink Nigeria Limited (GNL), Mr. Bolaji Osunsanya comments, “The completion of this project is a demonstration of our determination to build Sun-Saharan Africa’s largest pipeline infrastructure on a world class platform. We have concluded the Phase 3 expansion project without any safety incident and the hydrostatic pressure test has confirmed our adherence to international standards”. Commenting further, Mr Osunsanya states; “The new pipeline will significantly improve our capacity to deliver increased volumes of gas to our customers especially within Tin Can Island and Apapa industrial Scheme. In the near future, Gaslink plans to extend its business beyond Lagos State , to other parts of Nigeria and indeed, West Africa . Preliminary work has already reached various stages in Calabar and Abuja , where Gaslink seeks to get new franchise rights from the Nigeria Gas Company (NGC), while further positioning itself as the preferred Local Distribution Company (LDC) for the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) that will transport natural gas from Nigeria to Ghana , Togo and Benin . Gaslink Nigeria limited is an indigenous company established to promote gas distribution and utilization in Nigeria . The company, a subsidiary of Oando Gas and Power, is operating a 20-year Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (GSPA) with the Nigeria Gas Company. Gaslink is the pioneer and one of the few companies in Nigeria involved in the piping and distribution of natural gas to industrial, residential and commercial consumers.

The workshop, NAEC stressed, would help the Federal> Government fashion out the policy that would be central to> comprehensive national agenda, adding that it would> reposition the Nigeria’s economy to take full advantage of> human and natural resources.> The statement added: “The central challenge has always> been funding of strategic investment to realize the national> aspiration. Our association is providing the platform for> major players and stakeholders to interact and share ideas> on how to tackle this challenge and optimise the gains of> the NCD policy.” > The recent bank re-capitalization and consolidation> programme initiated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),> NAEC stated, was geared towards making the banks garner the> financial strength to compete with other players around the> world in the provision of a broader range of financial> services in the industry.> Among the services are securitization of underwriting> insurance and brokerage services in oil and gas industry,> which had been the exclusive preserve of foreign insurance> companies.

She however said Nigeria Political history and find out what led to the truncation of our past democracies adding that Nigerians have experienced both military and civilian rule but Nigerians have experienced more progress under civilian government.She added that the only way to sustain democracy “is if there is a general feeling of progress under civilian rule” stressing that the vision of the Nzeogwu in the first coup was good but by truncating that democracy which was by no means perfect he got us further away from the idea he mentioned. “Our current democracy is by no means perfect and it is a long way from achieving a better Nigeria but I believe it will correct itself if men and women of courage stand up and speak up about injustice and unfairness” she stress that in “Nigeria we must make change through the democratic process, it will be slow and there will be victims along the way but we must not waiver”. Chief Alani Bankole said the magazine has in his best sustain democracy in the country and call on Nigerians to ensure that a well democratic nation is build for the next generation. Dr. Frederick Fasheun said democracy cannot be sustain without peace and unity in the country adding that its right time Nigeria build a nation that have the interest of the populaces , that have a dream for every Nigerian on the street. Lagos Govt. Opts For Wind Power to slove power failure

Ayodele Samuel , Lagos As parts ot efforts to eradicate the problem of Electric power failure, the Lagos state government is set to launched a project which will see the state employing wind energy as its alternative source of power supply. The project which could gulp about N34 billion(200million Euros) was brought about as a result of ineffectiveness and near collapse of power generation in the country, especially in Lagos state. Commissioner of Science and Technology, Dr. Kadri Hamzat, said the state had already sent out experts to understudy how wind energy, as alternative power supply, could be used in the state. “Wind energy is something we are considering because the world is thinking of comparative energy generally. I was viewing a documentary, which says that the United States has one per cent of their energy from wind, but they are thinking of increasing it to 11 per cent. “Again, it is expensive but then, do we have the skill to monitor it by the day? So, what His Excellency has directed is that we must get experts who can enlighten us. “I have searched on the internet, I have spoken to people and seen how it is done outside. I think the project will cost about 200 million euros, which is a lot of money,” Hamzat stated. According to the commissioner, “we are talking to MAIS, which is an aspect of IBS, that there is a company they gave a letter to carry out the survey. There was a survey that was done across the whole country, which I have now, that Lekki alone can supply 1,000 mega watts of electricity by wind. “We are saying this company should go and do a study and identify particularly where the project will be and know how many coasts or water ways will be used, and so on. “We have given them that assignment and they have started doing that and then we will get our own independent expert review on the report and at the end of the day, if it is viable, we will do it and if it is not, we wouldn’t do it.” Hamzat also spoke on the Ikeja digital village, saying that the village is a place where you can study and also get information about the state. “It is not something that has been done before. We have about 340 PCs there, which means, at a time, I can train 80 people, and everybody will have his own PC, be able to do simulations among others. “We are buying about two million books, not physical books, but computer books, whereby three persons can read a book at the same time,” he stated.
