“The democracy in Nigeria need to be sustain for the future generation” was words coming from Senator Iyabo Obasanjo Bello first Daughter of the former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Olayiwola Alani Bankole a PDP chieftain and father of the Rt. Hon . Speaker of the Federal House of Representative Demeji Bankole and the National President and Founder of Odua People Congress OPC Dr. Frederick Fasheun , during the lunching of the pioneering political celebrity Magazine EXPOPLUS in Lagos.Delivering the keynote address Iyabo Obasanjo said there is need to know what has led to not sustaining democracy in the past to know how to sustain it currently and pass it to the next generation.
She however said Nigeria Political history and find out what led to the truncation of our past democracies adding that Nigerians have experienced both military and civilian rule but Nigerians have experienced more progress under civilian government.She added that the only way to sustain democracy “is if there is a general feeling of progress under civilian rule” stressing that the vision of the Nzeogwu in the first coup was good but by truncating that democracy which was by no means perfect he got us further away from the idea he mentioned.
“Our current democracy is by no means perfect and it is a long way from achieving a better Nigeria but I believe it will correct itself if men and women of courage stand up and speak up about injustice and unfairness” she stress that in “Nigeria we must make change through the democratic process, it will be slow and there will be victims along the way but we must not waiver”.
Chief Alani Bankole said the magazine has in his best sustain democracy in the country and call on Nigerians to ensure that a well democratic nation is build for the next generation.
Dr. Frederick Fasheun said democracy cannot be sustain without peace and unity in the country adding that its right time Nigeria build a nation that have the interest of the populaces , that have a dream for every Nigerian on the street. Speaking earlier the publisher of the magazine Edward Dada Larunsi said he’s determine to be in the fore front for the fight to sustain democracy in Nigeria “ our democracy is developing and we must build a mature democracy in this country”.He however task other media to give every politician a voice and join the race of sustaining and celebrating Democracy in Nigeria
