Lagos NUT Stages Protest to Commence Strike

The Lagos chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), yesterday staged a peaceful protest to commence the nationwide indefinite strike meant to compel the Federal Government to implement the Teacher Salary Scheme (TSS).
The Lagos State chairman of NUT, Comrade Micheal Alogba said the strike was schedule to start on Tuesday (today), but the national executives of the union decided to draw back the date after the negotiating team of the Union and the Federal Government failed to arrive at any tangible agreement.
He said all schools; both private and public should be under lock until the government accedes to the union’s demand.
“All private schools should join in the struggle; otherwise they stand the risk to be picket, he threatened. We want full co-operation from all the members so that the strike would be successful. He said
He noted that the strike action is capable to affect the smooth running of the economy, he, however, warned that the union should not be blamed in case it happened..
He implored all examination body to join the union in appealing to the federal government to issue out the enabling circular and table of payment as contain in the TSS table so as all suspended examination could continue.
However, a visit to a private school whose principal plead anonymity revealed they are not compliant with the d irective.
