Fuel subsidy protest: After one year Lagos arraigns Killer D P O for murder

Hope many have not forgotten Adedamola Abe, the hero of fuel subsidy protest in Lagos who was shot dead by a Divisional Police Officer DPO   Segun Fabunmi on Yaya-Abatan Ogba Lagos on the first day protest. the  dismissed DPO  was   arraigned for murder, before Justice Olabisi Akinlade of a Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja after one year of committing the offense .  the charges read, "Segun Fabunmi, on or about January 9, 2012 at about 9.30am while on security patrol at Yaya Abatan Junction, Ogba Agege, Lagos in Ikeja Judicial Division, murdered one Adedamola Daramola. "Segun Fabunmi on or about January 9, 2012 at about 9.30am while on security patrol at Yaya Abatan Junction, Ogba Agege, Lagos in Ikeja Judicial Division did attempt to kill one Alimi Abubakar by shooting at him with AK 47 rifle." The alleged offence of murder was said to contravene Section 221 of the Criminal Law, No. 11, 2011, while the offences of attempted murder and causing grievous bodily harm were said to, respectively, contravene sections 228 and 243 of the same law.   The judge ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Maximum Prison, and adjourned till June 14 for the hearing of the application.

BREAKING: Jonathan set to announce State of Emergency in Northern Nigeria by 7pm

In few minutes away, President Goodluck Jonathan  would  announce a state of emergency in  some local governments in some troubled states in the Northern part of Nigeria. The pronouncement is contain in a state of the Nation broadcast to be made by President today by 7pm, Oppositions parties, state governors have opposed the declaration of emergency rule in the North but adamant President Jonathan would  go ahead  today. The  Senate today endorse emergency rule in some northern states. President (GCFR) will address the nation at 7:00PM tonight on the network services of the NTA,VON & FRCN.

Breaking: Court may Jail Tinubu for certificate forgery

 

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may go to jail as Federal High Court has reserved ruling over the alleged certificate forgery.

The federal high court Ikoyi Lagos has reserved ruling on the suit filled by Dr Adegbola Dominic against Inspector general of police and commissioner of police Lagos state to June 4th, 2013.

Dr Dominic took the duo to court over their inability to conclude the investigation of certificate forgery by Bola Tinubu and prosecute him forforgery as directed by the supreme court.

Bola Tinubu was alleged to have forged the certificates which he presented to INEC in 1999 when he contested for election as the governor of Lagos state.

The late Gani Fawehinmi who first challenged the academic qualifications that Tinubu presented to INEC in court was told by both the high court and the appeal courts that Tinubu as then sitting governor cannot be tried as he enjoys immunity from prosecution.

The legal luminary then headed to supreme court and the apex court ruled that though Tinubu enjoys immunity from prosecution, he can be investigated by police over the allegation and tried after his tenure.

However, after Tinubu's tenure as the governor of Lagos state, the Nigeria police refused to charge him as ruled by the supreme court.

It was this seeming lack of will by the police to perform their constituttional duty, to conclude their investigation and charge Tinubu to court that Dr Dominic is challenging by asking the federal high court to compel the IG and commissioner of police Lagos to bring Tinubu to justice.

Speaking in an interview, Barr. Kayode Kayode Ajulo an Abuja based lawyer said:
"Certificate forgery is a criminal offense. Tinubu may be jailed for lying under oath if found guilty.

I wish the media will be vigilant to even cross check the claims of the schools attended by Tinubu as submitted to INEC.

This is not a witch hunt but a move to conclude a case in line with the supreme court ruling."
