THE NIGERIA MEDIA AND THE DEATH OF OUR GREAT JOURNALIST
The Nigeria Union of Journalist chairman Mr. Wahab Oba as postpone the scheduled protest to the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos command, has been put to hold for the lack of insecurity. Oba said this while addressing journalist at the NUJ secretariat, Alausa , as he appeal to pressmen to remain calm. Oba added that “today is a special day set aside to mourn the death of one of us and to ask the police it is taking a long time to produce the killer of Ogundeji” Journalist despite the early morning rain to storm the NUJ secretariat for a peaceful protest organised to demand justice over the killing of a member of ThisDay Newspaper Editorial Board, Mr. Abayomi Ogundeji who was recently shot by an unidentified gunmen along Akowonjo road. Meanwhile the executive Council last night had a meeting with the hierarchy of police in lagos at the police command, Ikeja the meeting which lasted for seven hours and “we are told that the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro has ordered that the case be transferred to FCID, Abuja which is higest investigation authority in the country” Oba said. he however explined to journalist who were not pleased with the suitation to remain calm “ when we left their office, the exco members retired to the secretariat to deliberate on the discussion we had with the police”. “we are not cowards, but for the intreast of the nation and spirit of Mr.ogundeji we have agreed to put the protest on hold as the police had told us categorically that they don’t grananteed our security and you know police any thing can happen” Oba stress.
